Commercial Radio Station Ownership Consolidation
Shown to Harm Artists and the Public

Future of Music Coalition Study Demonstrates
Negative Impact of Radical Consolidation of Radio Industry

On Monday, November 18, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, the Future of Music Coalition (FMC) will release "Radio Deregulation: Has It Served Citizens and Musicians?", a new report that examines how radical consolidation of radio station ownership has damaged the public’s radio airwaves and stifled localism, competition, innovation and diversity across the country. This comprehensive analysis is critically important and timely considering the FCC’s third biennial review of broadcast ownership rules currently underway.

In addition to the morning’s press conference, at 2:00 PM FMC will also host a live, 2-way teleconference via telephone to service interested journalists who are unable to attend the Washington, DC briefing.

The Future of Music Coalition is a nonprofit collaboration that identifies and promotes technologies, policies and business models that can benefit artists and citizens. The FMC will be joined at the briefing by other organizations who share concerns about the impact of consolidation on radio as a public resource.
