The FCC by stepped bipartisan opposition as well as the music community. Last month, Eddie Vedder, Michael Stipe, and Tom Morello joined many other artists in signing an open letter to the commission protesting the change. But protests by musical advocacy groups such as the Future of Music Coalition and Free Press have been applied in vain.
The statement, “The next 120 days are going to be big,” tweeted by the Future of Music Coalition portends an ongoing fight against e-stratification.
Moore first met Morello in November 2006 when the guitarist came to New Orleans for a Future of Music Coalition concert at Tipitina’s. Two nights before the benefit, Moore performed at a party at the Mother-in-Law Lounge that Morello attended.
As Moore recalled, Morello said, “Ask anybody who knows me — I hate drummers. But you’ve done nothing to offend me. You’re my new favorite drummer.”
At Tipitina’s, they briefly shared the stage; Moore also performed with trombone collective Bonerama.
Guess what? Street Sweeper -- a supergroup featuring Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine/the Nightwatchman) and Boots Riley (The Coup) -- will be the opening act for this summer's Nine Inch Nails/Jane's Addiction "NIN/JA" tour.
