Future of Music Summit | Nov 13, 2012
Greetings, FMC fans! Future of Music Summit 2012 is fast approaching; it’s all happening on November 13, just one week after election day. This year’s installment is a special one-day post-election edition of our annual event, jampacked with some of the brightest minds in music, technology, and policy.
And awesomely, our summit is already at full capacity! We’re thrilled to see such an enthusiastic response, but if you haven’t registered, that doesn’t mean you can’t participate. We’ve teamed up with New America Foundation to host a live webcast of the entire event, start-to-finish, and we encourage you to share feedback and submit questions via Twitter and Facebook. This means regardless of whether you’re with us here in DC , your voice can be heard.
If you’d like to be placed on the waitlist to attend the event in person, please send an email to waitlist [at] futureofmusic [dot] org , and we’ll be in touch as seats become available. Otherwise, plan to join us virtually ! As always, video archives will be made available after the event.

What can our Artist Revenue Streams research tell us about musicians’ leverage in setting compensation levels?
What might the 113th Congress have in store for arts & culture policy, and what constructive role can musicians play? We’ll be asking leading Capitol Hill staffers to share their thoughts.
What are some of the newest technological tools that artists can use to manage their business? CASH Music , Artist Growth , and Songkick will show off their wares.
What’s the role of data in shaping arts & culture policy, and how might it connect musicians to education, economic development, and other policy areas?
How do art and activism intersect? Artists including Merril Garbus of tUnE-yArDs and Thao Ngyuen of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down will join artist manager Jordan Kurland to reflect on 2012’s wild electoral season.

Our Summit is always a powerful launching pad for great conversations and new connections in the field. So if you’re among the many folks planning to watch online, you can use it as an opportunity to build up the music community in your city or town by hosting a viewing party. We’re calling it the “FMC12 e-Summit”; you can invite people who work in music and want to meet new people, watch, ask questions, talk and network! We’ve made it easy with these tools:
- a handy checklist (pdf) on how to organize your viewing party
- a customizable flyer (pdf) to post in your community
Building a sustainable future for musicians requires all players coming to the table, so we’ve put together a resource page with all sorts of tools and images to help expand the circle. We’ve also got a facebook event set up for online viewers; RSVP and invite your friends! And you can tag everything summit related with #fmc12 .
