Washington, D.C.—Excitement builds for the can’t-miss music-tech-policy conference of 2010 with the announcement of additional speakers and presenters for the 10th Anniversary Future of Music Policy Summit.
Taking place at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. from Oct. 3-5, Future of Music Coalition’s annual Policy Summit features timely conversations about music in an increasingly networked, digitized world. The updated roster of speakers now includes Tim Westergren of Pandora (in conversation with Wall Street Journal tech columnist Kara Swisher), independent label legend Tom Silverman of Tommy Boy Records, storied music managers Peter Jenner and Bertis Downs, Ariel Hyatt of Ariel Publicity/Cyber PR, Emily White of Whitesmith Entertainment, veteran music attorneys Jay Cooper and Dina LaPolt, US Copyright Register Marybeth Peters, Amaechi Uzoigwe of Definitive Jux Records, digital music visionary Jim Griffin, Google Senior Copyright Counsel Fred von Lohmann and many more.
Over the course of three days, a diverse mix of musicians, arts advocates, policymakers, technologists, media representatives and industry figures will descend on D.C. to discuss pressing issues that impact the entire music ecosystem.

Previously confirmed speakers include T. Bone Burnett (musician, producer, O Brother Where Art Thou; Crazy Heart; Alison Krauss & Robert Plant) in conversation with Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot; Damian Kulash (OK Go), Ian Rogers (Topspin Media), Eric Garland (Big Champagne), musician and “recovering” digital music executive Tim Quirk, singer-songwriter Erin McKeown and Fortune Magazine’s “smartest academic in tech” danah boyd.
A full day of artist-centric programming takes place on Sunday, October 3, with presentations and interactive discussions on subjects ranging from fan analytics to direct-to-consumer case studies to the possible impact of health care reform on musicians. Artists and music entrepreneurs are sure to welcome Ariel Hyatt, who will present her sought-after “master class” on music marketing and social media.
Nearly a dozen “supersessions” on topics ranging from new business models to international copyright issues to artist activism lets attendees mix it up with the mavens of music, technology, policy and law. Meanwhile, film screenings, cocktail parties and a live concert keep the camaraderie and conversation going well beyond the panels and presentations.
Other hot topics slated for Summit 2010 include the state of arts and cultural policy in America, indie labels in 2010, broadcasting and internet issues and the “termination of transfer” process, in which eligible musicians and songwriters can apply to regain their copyrights. Special to this year’s event is an all-star conversation about — appropriately — the future of music. Step right up and make your predictions along with those of the experts.
Keynotes, additional speakers and complete programming schedule to be announced shortly.
